How to care for your handmade corn broom
Our corn brooms are made with all natural broom corn and require proper care to extend its life and maintain its quality.

Store your corn broom inside
As tempting as it may be, do not leave your broom outside. Corn brooms are sensitive to outdoor weather and moisture and if left outside. It can get moldy and eventually get ruined. Leave it in the garage, shed or inside your house. Your broom will thank you later.

Keep your corn broom hung up
By either drilling a hole in the top of the handle or using a broom hanger, store your corn broom off the ground. This will help take the stress off always being on its bristles and will prevent your broom from curving or spreading.

Soak your corn broom
Eventually your natural corn broom will start to dry out and break off, but you can restore your broom by soaking it about once a year. When we are making corn brooms, we soak the broom corn so that it doesn't break apart. We recommend soaking the bristles in a bucket of warm water up to the lowest stitch, for about 20 mins. It is very important for your broom to fully dry afterwards. A good time to do this is in the summer when your broom can hang in the sun for a few hours. This process re-moisturizes your broom and will keep it lasting for years to come.
